My Pneumatic Wheezer

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I have been busy. I do have a life. I do have things to do. Unfortunately, I have been busy doing things that I would much rather not be doing, mainly nursing a sick child. My little guy, Philip has been very sick.

Philip has had a chronic cough for quite a while, mainly at nighttime. We go through cough syrup fast. But lately, Philip's cough has crept it's way out of the shadows of the night, and made itself boldly known during the light of the day, making Philip a miserable little kid.

I finally broke down and took him to the doctor on Wednesday. He said he could hear some wheezing, and was concerned he may be developing asthma. He prescribed an inhaler to use as we needed it, and sent us on our way.

Thursday there wasn't much change.

Friday, it all hit the fan.

He went into a coughing fit, and couldn't get his breath. His chest was hurting so bad he would scream out in pain if I even touched him. So I rushed him back to the doctor. They listened to him breathing, and gave him a full-on face mask breathing treatment to see if that helped. It didn't. They then decided he needed a chest x-ray. So off to the hospital we went. People are so nice at hospitals when they see a very sick child.

One chest x-ray later revealed what the doctor has assumed - pneumonia. Yeah, I know. I almost freaked out, too. So they put him on an antibiotic, and sent us home, with strict orders to bring him straight to the ER if he started having any problems breathing.

So far today, he is about the same. I have to take him back to the doctor on Monday to see how he is reacting to the antibiotic. He is also still using the inhaler to help him breathe. Poor little guy. I do not like having sick children. It is a very helpless feeling.

I'll keep you posted if there is any change. Hopefully the only change will be for the better.
